What is elbow pain?
Elbow pain is common and there are several conditions which can affect the elbow. Although the underlying cause is very rarely serious, it can be frustrating and worrying, affecting many aspects of daily living such as sleeping, self-care, household activities, work and hobbies.

Altered sensation or tingling in the little and ring fingers. Pain may travel down from the inner elbow. The hand may feel weaker.

Pain and/or stiffness around the front, back and/or side of the elbow. It may be painful to bend or straighten the elbow as well as carry or lift objects.

Pain felt on the inner aspect of the elbow, often worse on gripping activities, particularly when bending the palm downwards or rotating the forearm inwards such as opening jars.

Swelling over the bony tip of the elbow. The swelling is soft and moveable under the skin, often painless except when the arm is fully bent or pressure is applied to the area.

Pain felt on the outer aspect of the elbow. Pain is worse on gripping activities such as lifting with the palm down, wringing out a dishcloth or pouring from a heavy jug/pan.
