Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Dealing with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
The good news is that over a third of cases settle within 6 months and almost half of people resolve within 2 years by doing nothing at all. For those people with more limiting symptoms and those wanting to limit the impact as well as speed up recovery, the following treatments are available.
- You may benefit from the use of a night splint – these are inexpensive and usually come with a metal bar inside that sits over your wrist. We suggest adapting this bar slightly so it matches the natural shape of your wrist for a better fit.
- If that is not successful, you may be referred to see a specialist.
- Exercises can offer some help – see our exercises page for some ideas.
- Further treatments that can be considered include a steroid injection or surgical decompression for the most severe cases.
- Sometimes further tests called nerve conduction studies are organised to confirm the diagnosis but are not required for the majority of cases.
