Active Wait programme
Week 1 – Introduction
Active Wait: Week 1
Supporting you while you wait for surgery
When waiting for a hip or knee replacement, you will have pain that affects you every day which can have a significant impact on your health and wellbeing.
It is important that your health does not decline while waiting for surgery, so you are better able to handle the physical demands of the procedure and the recovery period.
If you are fit, strong, and healthy, your surgery has a better chance of success, with improved recovery.
We know the difficulties of waiting for surgery and how hard it can be. So, we have created Active Wait to support you.
Your journey to surgery
Dedicate one morning, afternoon or evening each week to visit Active Wait and learn the new topic information and consider how you can apply it into your life.
Your journey will be different to others, so it is important to take the information that works for you and use it.
Commit to the exercise programme and attempt to complete each session at least twice a week.
Follow the link to the Active Wait Diary which can help you to keep track of your progress and get the most from the programme.
Take charge of your health for a successful surgery and recovery. We hope the following helps you along the way.
Questionnaire
So that we can see if Active Wait is useful for patients awaiting hip and knee surgery we would like you to complete a short questionnaire by clicking here. Please only complete this questionnaire if you are on the Sheffield teaching hospital hip and knee joint replacement waiting list. We will then ask you to complete a similar questionnaire at the end of the programme.
This is entirely optional and will not affect your treatment or surgery in any way. All responses are anonymous and cannot be linked to your patient record.
